DREAM A LITTLE DREAM
Daniel Edwards Proves that Dreams Do Come True
“(I’ve wanted to race) ever since I was born,” Edwards shared. “We really didn’t have the money at first, but when we got the money Dad let me do it.”
While Edwards’ parents are extremely supportive of their son’s racing career, he credits a fellow driver and 2010-2011 Modified Track Champion with having the biggest influence on his racing career. “Justin Houston for sure… (I) didn’t meet him until my first season… He’s been a big influence.” And you could not ask for a better influence than a multiple Track Champion who has raced pretty much anything with wheels on it.
When asked his first memory of racing, Edwards shared a rather scary experience, “It was the second race I ever raced. I flipped my car.” He added, “Mom was pretty scared, (but) it’s the best memory I’ve got.”
Edwards picked up his coveted first Feature win at Paducah International Raceway on September 2, 2011. “(I was) shaking all over,” he laughed. “(I was) really happy… (it was) unexplainable… a good feeling.”
That win was also very emotional for Edwards as he shared that his grandfather passed away in 2009, “I knew my granddad was watching over me.” “(I’ve wanted to race) ever since I was born,”

Other major victories in Edwards’ career in addition to Heat wins include the two Feature wins he has at PIR for the 2012 season. He also has another Top-Five finish and is currently the points leader for the open 2012 High School Warrior Track Championship.
While Paducah International Raceway is his home track, Edwards has raced at Clarksville Speedway once so far this season.
Where does Edwards see his racing career in five years? He shared, “(I) hope to be in a Street Stock or Open Wheel, (but) that may not happen… street stock for sure.”
“I’d love to be in NASCAR,” Edwards commented on his aspirations 10-years down the road, “(I) plan on being in a Modified for sure,” he added. His favorite NASCAR drivers are Kurt Busch and Jimmie Johnson.
Racing has become a weekly family event around the Edwards household. His parents, Donnie and Shirlonda are always at the track supporting their favorite driver. There also may be some competition headed his way, his sister, KaSondra, with whom he shared a race car during the 2010 season.
“Dad is building a Warrior car for her,” he said. When asked about how he would feel racing against his sister, Edwards laughed, “That’s something we don’t see eye to eye on… I’m pretty sure I can beat her.”
Edwards, a Paducah, Kentucky native, currently drives the #7D High School Warrior car which is sponsored by HDM and Edwards Farms. He is a student at Heath Middle School. When he is not on the track he is busy working alongside his dad on their farm or riding dirt bikes with his buddies.
Everyone has dreams, but Daniel Edwards proves he has the tenacity to make his dreams come true. Come to Paducah International Raceway on Friday nights and see him race for his first High School Warrior Track Championship.
